Fourth Grade Writes Persuasive Essays
Mrs. Miller’s fourth grade class at New Salem Elementary chose to debate and write persuasive essays about their favorite place to get pizza in Monroe. They planned their essays in partnerships by creating graphic organizers to list the reasons that supported their claim. They also gathered evidence to support their opinions by using the internet to collect facts. It was a lot of fun researching sanitation scores and reading reviews from customers. Furthermore, these amazing students created a strong thesis statement that they repeated again and again in their essay to persuade you to agree with them. Finally, they organized their essays by writing powerful paragraphs filled with higher leveled language. Savannah Wallace states, “Pizza Hut is the place to go for pizza for a plethora of reasons.” Slate Harrington comments, “Pizza Hut is outstanding for a million reasons.” Pressley Taylor writes, “Pizza Hut has impeccable pizza and very good deals.”
Mrs. Miller visited Pizza Hut to present her student’s hard work and writing and ask if they could display their work in the restaurant. Mike Langvardt , the store manager, was more than happy to oblige. As she was talking to Mr. Langvardt two of her students, Ruby and Rheya Mullis, came running up to her, they were so excited to see their work being praised and appreciated. Mr. Langvardt was very generous and gave each student in Mrs. Miller’s class a coupon for one free personal pan pizza for their well written essays.
We want to say thank you to Pizza Hut and Mr. Langvardt for their generosity and willingness to support our students. They have helped create a positive and long-lasting memory in these children’s lives.
