Air Force JROTC cadets visit Air National Guard Base, Carolinas Aviation Museum

Cadet Ashley Lathan tries out the pilot seat in a C-130 Hercules at the Air National Guard Base in Charlotte.

On Thursday, March 6, 2014, a group of Parkwood’s Air Force JROTC cadets visited two local sites to experience firsthand knowledge of military and commercial flight. First they traveled to Charlotte Douglas International Airport to get an inside look at the Air National Guard Base. There they got to climb inside a C-130 Hercules and sit in the cockpit! In addition, cadets visited aircraft maintenance facilities and learned how an engine works.

Their next stop was the Carolinas Aviation Museum, where they viewed the "Miracle on the Hudson" Airbus A320 and historic commercial and military airplanes. While there, cadets also competed in a scavenger hunt and explored exhibits for prizes.

Senior cadet, Terra Green, commented, "The field trip was very interesting and educational.  I learned facts about planes and procedures that I wasn't aware of before."
