Pre-K is Flippin' the Flapjacks!

Mrs. Paschal and Ms. Newton’s class did an author study on Laura Numeroff. We looked at a lot of the books that she has written. The students made a graph of their favorite book of hers to see which was most popular among the kids. It turned out to be If You Give a Pig a Pancake. The Pre-K class at Marshville Elementary School has been “flippin’ the flapjacks” ever since! They were able to learn a song called “Flippin’ the Flapjacks” that taught them position words and opposites like up/down, over/under and fast/slow. The students even made a list of all of the rhyming words from the book.
Students were excited to make their own pancakes then eat them! Before the class made their pancakes, they read the recipe on the back of the box and made a list of the ingredients they would need. After this lesson, students talked about what would happen if they had not turned their pancakes over or if the pancake batter was too thin.
