Run for the Ridge plus Art for Good combine for another successful day!

Good Evening, Mavericks! This is Lisa Justice, Assistant Principal of Marvin Ridge High School in for Mr. Conner this week with your announcements.

Congratulations on a hugely successful weekend at the Ridge. The 3rd Annual Run for the Ridge cluster fundraiser hosted over 400 runners and many supporters on its way to several new records, including largest number of participants ever and a fastest time on the course. A special thank you on behalf of the administrative team to event organizer Terri Patton, the MRHS PTSO, and all of the volunteers and sponsors. Event coverage can be found in the attached Maverick Message newsletter and on our Facebook page.

We are very proud of our MRHS FBLA, who competed this weekend at the State Conference in Greensboro. Students brought home many first and finalist awards, and for the first time ever Marvin Ridge has not one but two state officers. Leila Terzic was elected as the 2014-2015 North Carolina FBLA State President and Ruchi Jalavancha was re-elected as the North Carolina FBLA State Vice President for the Southwest Region. Way to go, Mavericks!

This week, course benchmarks will continue through Wednesday in World Languages, Fine Arts, Health and PE, CTE, and Science classes. Final reminder for students enrolled in AP classes: you must register and pay for your AP tests by March 26! This is the late deadline and will include a late fee! You will not be able to take an AP test in May if you do not register by March 26.

Course Registration meetings with students for the 2014-2015 school year also continue this week. Students please remember to bring all of your signed materials with you on your assigned meeting day. Spring pictures will be taken on Thursday, March 27. Students must have an order form and money with them to participate.

Sharing more good news, English teacher and Teacher of the Year for Marvin Ridge High School, Ms. Lindsey Arant has been named a top ten finalist for UCPS Teacher of the Year. She continues to excel and receive much deserved recognition from fellow colleagues and students. Great job, Ms. Arant.

Athletic events this week are listed in the Maverick Message. All Winter Sports athletes and parents are invited to attend the Winter Sports Banquet tomorrow night at 6:30 in the MRHS Auditorium. In coaching news, Cameron Starr has been named UC Weekly Track Coach of the Year, and Melissa King-Pierce has been named Swim and Dive Coach of the Year by the Charlotte Observer. If you haven’t heard, Adam Haines has been named our Men’s Basketball Head Coach after serving as an assistant coach and head JV coach under retiring Coach White.

Finally, Mr. Conner will be away from campus in Nebraska this week to be with his family. His father passed away this weekend. Our thoughts and prayers and hopes for safe travels are with him.

Thank you for your support of Marvin Ridge High School and our mission as One Team. Students, be sure to be on time for school tomorrow as our new tardy policy goes into effect. Have a great night!
