Music at Marshville
On Saturday, March 8th three fifth graders met at Cuthbertson High School in order to perform a concert. The concert is an annual tradition called the Unison Festival. Fifth graders Griffin Moore, Abby Brooks, and Hope Benson had been working on the music since the end of December. On March 8th from 8 AM- 5PM they combined with fifth graders from every elementary school in the county to rehearse and perform the music together. Song selections included “Seasons of Love,” from the musical Rent, “I Am Your Child” by Barry Manilow, and “Home” by Phillip Phillips.”
Dr. Tom Bulla, director of Elementary Education, was in attendance and had the following to say about the concert:
The UNISON festival exemplifies the spirit of unity, camaraderie and community. Students from all thirty schools, sharing the gift of music in a “giving me goosebumps” kind of way, music teachers sharing their passion with the students and the audience…PRICELESS!
Thank you and congratulations to Griffin, Abby, and Hope for their hard work, dedication, and for representing Marshville that day!
Another music activity from Marshville happened on Thursday March 20th when the second grade got to go on a field trip to Forest Hills High School for the annual Fred Ingold Festival. They had been learning about the different instrument families in class. On the field trip they got the chance to see and listen to two different ensembles. The first ensemble was the Allegro Strings which played a variety of music from the “Pink Panther Theme” to a Baroque minuet. The second ensemble they students heard was the Forest Hills High School Wind Ensemble.
