Arts Education on the Move!
The After School Art Club traveled to Charlotte, NC to visit the McColl Center for Design and The Carolina Clay Connection on Wednesday, March 19th. A cross-section of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students spent the day learning in a classroom without walls as they explored not only the galleries and studios, but also the public art on display throughout the city. Students saw professional art studios, galleries, and exhibitions; traditional artworks fashioned from paint and clay along with innovative works made from recyclables and light beams. All through the field trip students saw how art expresses culture. They experienced the decades of architectural design in skyscrapers and buildings, landscape design in green areas and parks, as well as the artwork from the public arts program which create the city of Charlotte’s unique character.
