UCEC Student Club hosts Health Fair
UCEC’s Health Club hosted its inaugural Health Fair on Friday afternoon, March 21 in Salon B of SPCC’s Conference Center. In addition to receiving a wealth of information on living a healthy lifestyle, nutritious snacks and door prizes were provided to those who attended the fair. Members of the club presented on various health related topics, including neurology, nursing, obstetrics, gynecology, nutrition and surgery. Groups of students prepared tables in order to exhibit and further explain these topics. An additional table featured the school’s Relay for Life team, who took up donations to help with cancer research.
The fair’s highlight came in the form of two guest speakers: Ms. Karla Ennis of Novant Matthews Medical Center and Ms. Katie Golfus of the Wingate University School of Pharmacy. These two provided valuable information regarding potential careers in the medical field. To close the fair with a lasting impression, the final thirty minutes gave students two options: to learn tai chi, a Chinese meditation and relaxation technique, from Shirley Mobley, or to participate in a Zumba class led by two UCEC students. The fair was a tremendous success, with about 150 students attending the fair. Students in the Health Club look forward to planning an even bigger and better event next year.
