International Festival - Beyond Borders

Students at the Peru booth make clay beads for jewelry.

The 2nd annual International Global Festival took place on Friday, March 28th at Porter Ridge Middle School. This is a great event where students and staff come together to learn and show off their knowledge about diverse cultures around the world. Booths about different countries and cultures were set up around the school, doors were lavishly decorated down each hallway, and food from around the world was served from the cafeteria tables.

One homeroom from each grade level won the door decorating contest. Mrs. Connell’s 6th grade homeroom decorated a beautiful Bangladesh door; Ms. Bryant’s 7th grade homeroom put together a fun door about Madagascar, and Mrs. Rose’s eighth grade homeroom had a fantastic French door.

Mrs. Castiblanco-Bass even brought students together to participate in a flash mob dance around the pit and the Related Arts students and teachers operated a green screen booth so that it looked as if visitors traveled the world for only $1.00.

“I’m proud of all the hard work and effort the students put into the International Global Festival,” said James Reddington, eighth grade Science teacher at PRMS.
This year’s International Global Festival was a success, and we are all looking forward to what next year’s festival will bring.
