African American Read-In Day
On February 20th students at Wingate Elementary participated in the twenty-fifth national African American read-in day. This event is sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and endorsed by the International Reading Association (IRA). This is the third year that Wingate Elementary has observed this annual event in the media center. Literacy is an important part of Black History Month and several African Americans shared a book with a grade level that was written by an African American. This continues to be an event that is enjoyed by all the students.
