The Benton Heights drama club presented their 9th annual Broadway production “Aladdin-Kids” with two shows for the student body and two evening performances for the community. On Friday morning, they welcomed three other elementary schools to the campus for a matinee, Antioch, Hemby Bridge and Wingate Elementary Schools. The production is a part of the partnership between Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and the Doctor Family Foundation.
Over 60 students auditioned last Fall, and 25 were cast to begin practices in January. The club is led by three advisors: Ms. Dawn Moretz (Drama Teacher), Ms. Christina Lohry (Dance teacher), and Mr. James Wagner (Music Teacher). The performances included fog machines, a large puppet, and many other special effects. Following the final curtain, the cast and over 200 guests enjoyed an Aladdin themed reception in honor of the performers who were recognized with gifts, flowers and pictures galore.
The Benton Heights drama club performed at the Knight Theater in Charlotte on Monday, April 7th with MTI (Music Theater International) from New York.
