Cuthbertson High School Student Takes First Place at NC State FCCLA Conference
CHS junior Eliani Corriette won first place and received a gold medal for the senior fashion design category at the North Carolina State FCCLA Conference recently held in Greensboro, NC. Ellie competed in the FCCLA STAR Events competition under the category of “Fashion Design.” Students were encouraged to design a fashion line including the name of the company, fashion styles, and clothing construction. Ellie designed an outfit especially made for young women of all shapes and sizes. The design reflected sophistication with a modest edge.
After a lot of hard work and dedication, she presented her fashion label before the panel of judges. As the first place winner, Ellie will be participating in the FCCLA National Conference held in San Antonio, Texas this July. She will be competing against all FCCLA STAR Event finalists throughout the United States.
CHS competed in the FCCLA North Carolina State Conference conference for the first time this year and Ellie was the first student from CHS to participate.
“Fashion is something that everyone can achieve, but style is unique. That is what inspired my clothing line, “L-iani.” The label was inspired by the unique styles seen in New York City and off of the fashion runway,” said Ellie.
Ms. Carnathan, CHS FCCLA adviser, said, “The FCCLA State Conference provided opportunities for students to participate in competitions, workshops, leadership and development sessions as well as meet-and-greet sessions for students all around North Carolina over the past three days. Ellie did a phenomenal job and I would like to say congratulations and good luck with nationals in July!”
