Nine students of Sun Valley Honor Choir recently performed in Carnegie Hall, New York City. These students were chosen by audition last fall, and have been learning music and earning money to pay for their trip ever since. These students flew in to New York on Friday afternoon, March 28, and went straight to rehearsal in the Grand Ballroom of the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. After rehearsal the students attended a Broadway show, Les Misérables, and ate dinner at a famous pizza shop, John's Pizzeria, in the heart of the theatre district. After an all-day rehearsal session on Saturday, the students traveled to Times Square for dinner and shopping. On Sunday the students toured Radio City Music Hall and managed a little more shopping on the way back to dress for the concert that evening at Carnegie Hall. Their director all weekend was the world renowned conductor from Florida State University, Dr. André Thomas. The students remarked that he really challenged them, expecting them to remember everything he said while holding them to high standards. The featured choir at this concert turned out to be Ashbrook High School from Gastonia, NC!

On Monday morning the students took the subway downtown to the 9/11 Memorial. All agreed that the fountains with names of all those lost on that fateful day listed around the edge are very haunting and beautiful. These fountains have water flowing down into a square so deep that one cannot see the bottom. The two fountains are the shape of the two twin towers that fell that day. Even though the weather that weekend was chilly and rainy, the trip was both exhilarating and exhausting. The students would like to extend their thanks to our awesome chaperones, Mike and Charlene Long, and Leigh Fabian. It was truly the trip of a lifetime.
