Wake Up to Ag Day is a Huge Success at Weddington HIgh School
Wake Up to Agriculture Day is an annual UCPS tradition that raises awareness of the agricultural heritage of Union County and North Carolina. Weddington High School FFA hosted the event on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
Fifty Warriors, including members of the FFA and students from Mrs. Sanders’ Animal Science and Horticulture classes, helped plan and carry out the event.
Over 400 third grade students from Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Rea View, and Antioch Elementary schools visited and traveled through various stations in small groups.
The third graders toured various animal stations that included a horse, sheep, rabbits, chickens, and goats. The students also visited stations focused on soil, photosynthesis, forestry, bees, and horticulture.
WHS agriculture students were on hand to teach the students a lesson in order to broaden their knowledge of how they perceived agriculture before their visit.
This year our visitors left excited at the amazing things they were able to see, but most importantly they became more aware of the realities of agriculture.
Thanks to our amazing students for putting together such a successful Wake Up to Ag Day.
