Porter Ridge art students at the Union County Student Artist Showcase
Porter Ridge Art Students competed at the Union County Student Artist Showcase at SPCC. Porter Ridge was on the top 3 middle schools in the county for bringing home the most ribbons in almost every category in the art show. Mrs. Durbin and Mr. Kendrick were allowed to enter up to 8 pieces each, 16 pieces total.
The middle school division includes all of the county’s public middle schools, Union Academy and home school students. Porter Ridge has been well represented in the show every year since 2005 when the school opened.
“It is an amazing show of all the artistic talent in Union County,” said Mrs. Durbin, “our students love coming out to see ‘the best of the best’ from all the art teachers in the elementary, middle and high school levels.” Art student Madison Toft described the event as “very impressive, really cool and an inspiring show.” “Seeing the show has given me some new ideas,” art student Maggie Horne said. Maggie was amazed and surprised at all the many different types of art on display. She also stated, “I was in awe of the talent in the show, we had some tough competition, I enjoyed seeing it so much.” The event is sponsored by the Union County Community Arts Council every year.
