Open House Welcomes New Cavs

Assistant Principal Sarah Stott (left), along with a panel of teachers and students, discusses high school life with students as part of the CHS Open House activities.

CHS was proud and excited to host an orientation evening for all new families to CHS on May 12. Principal Kim Warr met with parents in the Auditorium to share school accomplishments and goals, graduation requirements, school contact information, the UCPS Program of Studies, the roles of our Counseling department, college planning, booster club information, and much more.

Students began their evening together in the gym with Assistant Principal Sarah Stott and other staff members who went over high school requirements for graduation, clubs and activities to get involved in, and a look at a typical freshman student day. A panel of teachers and students were on hand to answer student questions about every topic from clubs to dress code to lockers.

“We were very excited to see so many students in attendance. They seemed eager to learn about the high school and how they could get involved,” said Ms. Stott.

Following the sessions, families were invited to tour the building, browse through the Media Center, and visit each department’s station to meet teachers and learn about different subject areas and electives. Video samples, textbooks and novels, science equipment, student projects, artwork, musical instruments, and even theatrical costumes were some of the items on display to give future Cavaliers a glimpse into their future activities. Coaches were on hand to answer athletic questions regarding PE uniforms, health curriculum, and individual sports. PTSO members were on hand to discuss school activities and membership and offer spirit wear.

“The focus of our Open House was to provide a warm welcome our future Cavaliers and their families and we were thrilled to have such a great turnout!” said Principal Kim Warr. “We are looking forward to our most amazing school year yet!”
