Peyton Thomas, a student at East Union Middle School, recently won the People’s Choice STEM Award given to individuals who exhibit excellence in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The award, potentially given to individuals in the WTVI's 13-county viewing area, recognizes sixth through 12th-grade students and teachers.

The 13-county viewing area voted for their favorite project. Peyton won the People's Choice Award with more than 1,000 votes.

Peyton was recognized on May 22 at CPCC’s central campus. The ceremony was broadcast on PBS Charlotte on May 23, 2014.
