Porter Ridge Students Honored at New Century Scholars Reception

Savannah Tarkka and Kelsi Castillo were honored for their accomplishment

 On Tuesday, May 27, 2014, South Piedmont Community College held a reception to honor the 2014 New Century Scholars from Union County Public Schools.  New Century Scholars is an innovative program that provides an educational opportunity to public school students.  An initiate of JobReady Partnership, New Century Scholars is a business initiative that has garnered the support of Union County Public Schools, South Piedmont Community College, Union County Chamber of Commerce, Vision 2020 and Quality Leadership Council. New Century Scholars are selected in the 7th grade and are followed all throughout their high school career.   

Representatives from Union County Public Schools, South Piedmont Community College and Union County’s Business community were joined by parents and students to honor all the recipients for their six year accomplishment.    Porter Ridge had two students to be recognized.    Savannah Tarkka and Kelsi Castillo were honored for their accomplishment.

During the reception, Savannah and Kelsi both were presented with a 2 year scholarship to South Piedmont Community College.   Both students plan to use their scholarship to further their education.    Congratulations to these Pirates on their accomplishment.
