Carolina Panthers Help Sun Valley Elementary Prepare for End of Grade Tests

Principal Dr. Terri Cooper poses with students, Sir Purr, and Coach Mike Clifton of the Carolina Panthers.

On Wednesday, May 28, Sir Purr and Coach Mike Clifton from the Carolina Panthers visited Sun Valley Elementary School to help them prepare for state testing in a fun and big way during their 30-minute, high-energy presentation!

Coach Clifton and Sir Purr stressed how our students can SPIKE their EOGs with confidence and pride with their test taking tips along with a video message from Carolina Panther football players. Each letter of SPIKE stands for a different strategy. S stands for getting plenty of sleep; P stands for being prepared; I stands for asking questions or inquiring; K stands for keep fit; and E stands for eat healthy. During the video presentation, students made important connections between how Carolina Panther football players get ready for a game and how they can apply those same strategies for their EOGs the next few days.

Students at Sun Valley Elementary have been preparing for this event all year and are ready to succeed. Many have taken part in the school’s tutoring every Tuesday afternoon after school since the fall. Teachers have also collaboratively taught and prepared fun and rewarding lessons for the school’s Tutoring Tuesdays.
