WHS participates in Habitat for Humanity

For several years Weddington High School has been a participant in the Habitat for Humanity construction project. It was started as a community service project by the Newsome family. Samantha Newsome led the project this year by organizing groups and clubs from Weddington High School to sign up every Saturday for 13 weeks to assist with the building of the house. The students helped with everything from framing to landscaping.

Every year there is a dedication ceremony to present the new house and keys to the recipient family. This year the ceremony was Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 am. The house has four bedrooms and one and a half bathrooms. It has a back yard and a storage building. It is located in Monroe.

Weddington High School was presented with a plaque thanking the school for helping construct the house. Assistant principal Mr. Gore accepted the plaque and spoke of Samantha Newsome's dedication and persistence to facilitate this project. “Sam was integral in arranging the volunteers from WHS to work every Saturday,” said Mr. Gore.

Thank you to each and every one who sacrificed their time and energy for this very worthy cause.
