Band of Blue Building a Successful Season

The Band of Blue is gearing up for the 2014 football season!  Students reported for marching camp earlier this week to focus on strength and conditioning, marching fundamentals, and learning the music for this year’s halftime performance.  Welcoming nearly twenty freshmen into the band family this year, the Band of Blue will be 65 members strong.

Student enrollment,  performance level, and enthusiasm are at an all-time high at this year’s camp.  Drum major Kyle Johnson says “this year’s rookies have an amazing amount of motivation. It’s exciting to work with a new group of students who are so eager to learn.  Their enthusiasm makes my job as a leader easier.”

The band is led this year by a dynamite team of student leaders who spent a week of their summer building their leadership and marching skills at a summer symposium for the marching arts at Western Carolina.  Drum major Allie Schneider remarks that “being part of the leadership team is an amazing way to see the growth of the band as a whole across the board - as musicians, as marchers, and as a team.”

This year’s halftime show, titled “I SPY,” features music from iconic spy movies and highlights include the James Bond theme, the theme from Skyfall, and the Mission Impossible theme.  We are excited to add a new twist to our halftime entertainment with this year’s show and fans can expect a different surprise ending to each halftime performance throughout the season.

The Band of Blue is proud to be able to support CATA football again this fall.  They will be featured on the field during pre-game and halftime at every home game, at the away game against Monroe, as well as a home football game at Wingate University.  Be sure to catch the Band of Blue at the first home football game on Friday, August 29 at Walter Bickett Stadium!
