First Day: Looking Forward To An Exciting New Year!
August 25th marked the first day of the 2014-2015 school year here at Porter Ridge and was one filled with the usual chaos of freshmen finding their classes and massive traffic jams at Grand Central. Despite that, there was also the crisp sense of a new school year.
The day was a whirlwind of classes and class changes that were ordinary to upperclassmen, but novel to new students. When freshman Hailey Stroud was asked about her first day, she replied, “Awesome first day! Can’t wait for the next four years!” That spirit is what has driven Porter Ridge to achieve excellence, even on the first day. New Assistant Principal Shane Ferron stated, “I thought it was well organized and planned out. It went off without any major issues."
For some students, it was a bit of a different experience. Senior Katie Stepanyuk commented, "It was bittersweet knowing it was my last first day at Porter Ridge High School." Senior Will LeGrand agreed, "It is hard to imagine this being my last year here. The Class of 2015 is getting ready for the next chapter of our lives and this place has had a big impact on us!"
English teacher Amanda McDevitt summed it all up by saying, "I felt like the first day of school went really smoothly. It is always exciting when the students come back and breathe life into the school."
As the staff and students embark on a new year, it is clear it will be memorable for everyone!
