New Crew Members Are Excited to Be Pirates!

Brianne Johnson—School Counselor
This is Mrs. Johnson’s ninth year as a school counselor and she is so excited to be a part of the Porter Ridge community this year! She lives in Charlotte with her husband and two young boys. She loves spending time at the pool and attending sporting events - especially baseball, basketball and football!
“I look forward to getting to know all of the staff members, students, and families at PRES,” states Mrs. Johnson.

Christina Harris—Music Teacher
Mrs. Harris is a graduate of Appalachian State University. She recently moved from Massachusetts and is glad to be home in North Carolina after many years as a military wife and mother of three sons. Mrs. Harris has 13 years of experience teaching music at the elementary and middle school levels. She loves camping, football season (Go Apps!), the beach and the mountains, and the fact that she will not have to shovel snow this year!
“I am thrilled to be a "Pirate" this year at Porter Ridge Elementary,” exclaimed Mrs. Harris.

Rhonda Timberlake—Fourth Grade Teacher
Mrs. Timberlake graduated from Wingate University. She has been in education for 10 years with UCPS in many capacities and has worked at Porter Ridge Elementary the past 3 years on the support team with reading intervention, and covering interim teacher vacancies. Mrs. Timberlake and her husband Frank have two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling when possible, and attending her son’s baseball and football games at Sun Valley. Mrs. Timberlake is originally from Dallas, Texas making her a Cowboys Fan for life – living in a house of Steelers fans! Some of Mrs. Timberlake’s favorite things are sunny days at the beach, Disney World, Mexican and Italian foods, and M&Ms.
Mrs. Timberlake has always dreamed of becoming a teacher. “I am looking forward to an awesome year with my class, a fantastic 4th grade team of support and a school filled with PIRATE PRIDE!”

Davida Zike—Exceptional Children’s Teacher
Mrs. Zike was born and raised in southern West Virginia. After attending college for two years, she joined the Army and became a Military Intelligence Analyst. She served our country for 20 years, and retired in 2000. While in the military, Mrs. Zike met and married her husband, Noel. They have been together for 33 years, and have three daughters and a grandson.
While stationed in Germany, Mrs. Zike attended the University of Maryland University College and earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology. She received post baccalaureate training in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.
She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta Pi, and a Sigma Sigma Sigma alumna.
Mrs. Zike loves teaching and working with children who have special needs. “Changing the lives of children in need is a passion, and I love my profession. I love my job and being a Pirate!”

Sara Salyers—Fifth Grade Teacher
This is Mrs. Salyers 14th year teaching, and her 2nd year in 5th grade. She taught all 13 years in Orlando, Florida. Mrs. Salyers considers herself a “rare breed” in that she is a Florida native. She was born and raised in Central Florida. Mrs. Salyers went to college at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. She loves being a classroom teacher, and is going to start working on her certification in Academically and Intellectually Gifted this year. Her interest in this certification was sparked after having the opportunity to work with a group of AIG students in Florida.
“I am very excited to be a member of the Porter Ridge team, and can’t wait to get to know everyone here,” states Mrs. Salyers.

Sarah Nicholas—Art Teacher
Mrs. Nicholas attended UNC-Charlotte for Visual Arts and a K-12 Art Education Licensure. She loves all forms of art making, but painting and pottery are her favorites. Mrs. Nicholas is a newlywed, having married her husband, Don, this past summer. They love to go to the movies. Mrs. Nicholas and her husband also spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying nature and time with their families.
Mrs. Nicholas is very excited to be a part of Porter Ridge. “I love art and children, they are my passions. I look forward to spending time with your children this year inspiring them to be creative.”

Randall Epley--Exceptional Children’s Teacher
Ms. Epley attended UNC-Wilmington for a degree in special education and elementary licensure. She loves working with children and helping them reach their goals. Ms. Epley enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Her favorite thing to do is to spend time at the beach.
“I am very excited to be a part of the Porter Ridge family and am looking forward to a great year. Go Pirates!”

Cheryl Lawrence—Assistant Principal
Mrs. Lawrence has been an educator for 21 years. She has been a classroom teacher, literacy teacher, and a school administrator. Mrs. Lawrence and her husband, Seth, have three children. Family time and reading are two of Mrs. Lawrence’s favorite things. She also enjoys spending time at the beach and would like to learn more about photography.
Mrs. Lawrence is very happy to be a part of the Porter Ridge family. “Making the transition to Porter Ridge has been a blessing to me. I appreciate the warm welcome of students and staff and look forward to getting to know my families and students!”
