Real Men Sing!
For the last four years, Dr. Kenney Potter has brought young men from middle and high school choruses together to share a common love for music. Dr. Kenney Potter started Real Men Sing to help boys feel more comfortable in a predominately female atmosphere. Chorus teacher, Bridget Meadows, selected 6 of our students to attend the workshop held at Wingate University.
Over 100 boys from Union County Schools participated. They had breakout sessions where they learned different techniques in singing including projection. Our students learned three songs: We Shall Not Sleep, Medieval Gloria, and a South African folk song. At the end of the workshop, the entire group performed the songs learned. Seventh grader, Isaac Pittman said, “I was nervous at first, but then I got used to everybody. I even made friends with a college student.”
Mrs. Burrows was very proud of her group and the work they accomplished. She said, “The boys are very excited to come back to class and show the girls what they have learned.”
