Prospect Brings "The Joy of Life" to Relay for Life!
This year's Union County Relay for Life event was a huge success for Prospect's team. The team chose the theme "La Joie de Vie" and set up a quant French bistro as its backdrop. The campsite won the award for best themed campsite and we are so proud but there is a bigger reason to to be a part of this great cause.
The backdrop for the French bistro was built by Instructional Assistant Avanda Starnes and her son Jeff. The Starnes family lost their patriarch a few years ago to cancer when Avanda's husband Donald passed away. "We are doing this in memory of him" Mrs. Starnes says. It has been healing for the family to be able to work for this cause and they have plans to do more in the future.
Prospect Elementary School has a strong history of supporting Relay for Life and have suffered loses that makes it all the more important to the Prospect community. Last year we lost Instructional Assistant Berniece Alexander to cancer and all of the team efforts went to honoring her memory.
Healing and moving on to celebrate "The Joy of Life" was the central theme for our Relay team this year and that along with the over $3000 that was raised by the Prospect community makes all the effort more than worthwhile. Prospect will continue its tradition of supporting the American Cancer Society and caring for each other. At Prospect, we are a family!
