Sardis Afterschool Gets a Visit from a K-9 Cop

Sardis students pose with Officer Wallace and Aleia.

Union County sheriff’s deputy, Christa Wallace and Aleia paid a visit to students in the Sardis Afterschool Care program on October 10, 2014. Wallace and Aleia are assigned to the Community Services Bureau of the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The officers presented a program to help students learn about how law enforcement works with schools to keep them safe. Aleia works as a service animal to help the sheriff’s department search for narcotics and other illegal substances in local high schools and middle schools. Wallace also brings Aleia along when she does programs on officer awareness and stranger danger. Sixteen students from Sardis attended the program. Sardis Afterschool Director Tanya Harris stated, “The kids asked some really good questions. Officer Wallace and Aleia were a real hit!” Harris frequently invites community members to do programs that enrich the Afterschool program at Sardis. She hopes to continue to build positive relationships in the community and offer such programs in the future.
