Student wins iPad Air for "Make It In Union County Awareness Week"
Students in Kait Batchelor’s Drafting II class were recently surprised with visitors from the Union County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President, Pat Kahle, as well as Shane Fraser, Chamber of Commerce’s Social Media Specialist, visited the classroom to present two awards. During the Chamber’s "Make It In Union County Manufacturing Awareness Week," students were able to participate in a Social Media Contest by promoting the events during the week and referencing the hashtag #MakeitinUC.
Porter Ridge 10th grade student Jonathan Waldron toured such manufacturing sites as Safran Turbomeca as well as participated in the Manufacturing Showcase held at South Piedmont Community College. During his visits, he posted information on Facebook using the #makeitinc hashtag. Based on his use of the hashtag, he was presented with a brand new iPad Air during class on behalf of the Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Batchelor was also recognized by Robert Filter, Career and Technical Education Director, for her promotion of "Make It In Union County Manufacturing Awareness Week." Batchelor promoted the events over numerous days to her students and even attended tours and the showcase herself. She had the highest number of participants among Career and Technical Education teachers in Union County. For her efforts, she will be receiving a $750.00 grant to be used in her classroom for her outstanding promotion of the event.
