National School Lunch Week
October 13-17, 2014 was National School Lunch Week and a time to recognize the hard work and preparation that goes into making school lunches. The cafeteria staff at Poplin Elementary School is made up of four ladies who begin their days at 6:00 a.m. preparing food for students.
On average 325 students purchase a school lunch and over 80 students purchase breakfast each day at Poplin. Jeannine Pultorak, who is the Cafeteria Manager, has worked in elementary, middle and high schools within UCPS, but says she enjoys elementary the most. Pultorak commends her staff and says they each work hard to do as much as possible to prepare for the next day. She says UCPS is one of only a few school districts who prepare a lot of food from scratch. Pultorak says the best part of the job is being there to give a hug or two as needed and she enjoys talking to the students and getting to know them.
The cafeteria staff is also made up of Tammie Mennitt, Danya Stroupe, and Emelia Martinez. Last week all of the classes competed to see which class would purchase the most school lunches during National School Lunch Week. There was a tie between Mrs. Ruby’s First Grade class and Ms. Boger’s Fourth Grade Class. Both classes have won a free dessert!
