Superintendent's Student Advisory Council holds first meeting
Dr. Mary Ellis held her first Superintendent’s Student Advisory meeting Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, bringing about 60 students from the county’s 11 high schools to serve in an advisory capacity to the superintendent.
Students will meet once a quarter, sharing their concerns and perspectives on improving the high school experience. Their task is to offer insight about the school system and educational issues from a student’s perspective.
In this first meeting, students discussed policies concerning code of student conduct and discipline.
They talked about violations of the phone/electronic devices policy, bullying and cyber bulling, and differentiating punishment for the aggressor and the participants in a fight situation.
In the past, dialog with the superintendent has included everything from the school system’s budget challenges to discussions about obstacles that may impede academic success for students.
