The only good snake is a LIVE one!

For the 31st year at Piedmont Middle, Mr. Ron Cromer brought his love of all things reptilian to share with 6th graders in his SNAKES, ALIVE! show. 6th graders and staff received valuable information about how to determine venomous snakes from non-venomous and how snakes work beneficially in our ecosystems to keep us free of vermin. Panthers of all ages were invited to hold and examine a variety of snake and lizard species, as well as watch a demonstration of feeding the mighty iguana “Tarzan” a sweet potato! The grand finale was a group sharing experience in holding the beautiful albino python, Lucy, who is 13.5 feet long and extremely heavy! Snakes Alive is sponsored directly by Piedmont Middle at no cost to students as part of Mr. Starnes’ and Dr. Radke’s environmental education roots, and their shared belief that the only good snake is a live one. Pictured here is assistant principal Ms. Mamie Blevins, with 6th graders and a corn snake friend.
