AP History Students Celebrate "Historween"
Who says AP History can’t be fun? Don Mather’s students will tell you that it can. Mathers assigned his AP History class a “Historween” project, with the culminating activity due on Friday, October 31st. Students chose a significant historical figure from any time in U.S. History prior to 1989. They researched their topics and created a bio-poem, along with a portrait depicting their characters.
On October 31, 2014, the students dressed up like the historical figure they had chosen. There was a diverse group of famous figures in the classroom, ranging from Lucille Ball to Jimi Hendrix to the Wright brothers. The students presented their bio-poems and circulated throughout the room, completing a character worksheet as they told each other about the famous American they chose. "The students love this project because they get to choose their character and make history come alive.” said Mather.
