CHS Promotes College Application Week

CFNC.org (College Foundation of North Carolina) is sponsoring College Application Week (CAW) during the week of November 11-14. CFNC.org is an organization designed to help you plan, apply, and pay for college. According to the CFNC.org website, the goal of North Carolina College Application Week is to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college online through CFNC.org. The CHS Counseling department is partnering with CFNC.org by encouraging students to learn about and apply to college through several activities planned for the week.

Seniors are encouraged to apply to college during CAW! On Wed. Nov. 12 and Fri. Nov. 14, students have the opportunity to sign up for appointments during the day to apply to college in our computer lab with counselors on hand to help with questions. Click here for a list of schools that have waived application fees especially for College Application Week.

Seniors and their parents are invited to attend a family work session on Wed. Nov. 12, from 4:30 – 8:00 pm in the Media Center. Counselors will be available to help with questions.

Teachers have decorated classroom doors with spirit items from their alma mater including facts about the college on the door. The CHS Counseling department will use these facts for a CAW scavenger hunt competition for students to encourage them to learn about various colleges and universities. Students may submit their scavenger hunt responses for a chance to win a free college t-shirt of their choice.

Pictures of each door will be posted to the CHS Facebook page where students, teachers and families can vote for their favorites. The teacher whose door receives the most “likes” will win a t-shirt from the college of his/her choice.

On Friday, Nov. 14, staff and students are invited to wear their favorite college t-shirt or sweatshirt as a way to celebrate higher education and promote applying to college.
