UCPS Student Wins Patriotic Art Contest
The 2014 American Airlines Freedom breakfast was held on November 7, 2014. It is sponsored by The Carolinas Freedom Foundation (CFF) and is the time that CFF honors high school and middle school students winners of this annual competition. Maddy Stratton, a student at Marvin Ridge Middle won 1st place at this year's competition with her art titled "Patriotism Is". "Star-Spangled Burger" by Jake Dudley, also a student at Marvin Ridge Middle, was awarded an Honorable Mention. Miss Stratton was also invited to ride in the Veteran's Day Parade on November 8, 2014.
The Carolinas Freedom Foundation was founded in response to former prisoner of war and retired Air Force Col. Quincey Collins' concerns about the lack of an organization in the area to promote patriotism. "Today, the work of the foundation has expanded into nine initatives, including those to educate young people and the community on the importance of citizenship while continuing to honor those who serve in both the military and other fields of community service."
