Global Studies Students Connect with Elementary Students through Country Booklets
Students in the seventh and eighth grade Global Studies classes recently completed a Project-Based Inquiry by creating small country booklets designed for elementary school students. Students had the opportunity to choose which location they would study about from a list of countries in different continents. The eighth grade classes selected from Europe, Africa, and Asia, while the seventh grade classes selected countries in the Americas, including the Caribbean, and various other places in the South Pacific. Once selected, the Global Studies students used their Chromebooks to research cultural information about their country. They had a check list of specific details they needed to search for in order to have similarities among all booklets. After gathering all the cultural points they had learned about in their research, the students began to write their booklets. To give the information a polished look, a colorful cover was created.
As a follow-up activity, the seventh and eighth graders practiced their letter writing skills by writing a letter to the recipients of the booklets. The booklets and letters will soon be on their way to elementary students within our area. We hope this project will help our younger students with expanding their global knowledge.
