CHS Named a Winner of 'Celebrate My Drive'

Students celebrate the announcement that CHS was named a winner of State Farm's Celebrate My Drive campaign.

Staff and students at Cuthbertson High School were delighted to learn that they are winners of $25,000 from the State Farm “Celebrate My Drive” campaign that was held during U.S. National Teen Driver Safety Week. During the week of October 15-24, 2014, students, staff, and community members participated in the campaign by making daily safe driving commitments that resulted in the win. CHS was one of only 100 school winners out of 3283 schools that participated across the nation.

The surprise announcement was made December 5 at a celebratory pep rally featuring guest speakers, music, banners, signs, balloons, and the presentation of the check. Special guests from the Union County Public Schools Board of Education included Mike Guzman, Leslie Boyd, and Christina Helms. Dr. John Jones, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Programs, and Tahira Stalberte, Chief Communications Officer, were guests from Union County Public Schools. CHS was also honored to welcome Linda Ferster, a representative from Congressman Robert Pittenger’s office, and State Farm representatives Emily Limer and Wil Brooks.

Principal Kim Warr said the winnings will go straight back to students and staff.

“Funds will be used for student and staff initiatives, instructional resources, and safe driving programs,” she said.

During Teen Driver Safety Week staff, students, and community were encouraged to make daily safe driving commitments. Every day during the campaign, participants could commit once per day per valid email address on the Celebrate My Drive website. Part of the commitment included answering 2 safe-driving questions each day. Exciting activities during lunches encouraged even more student participation.

“Our amazing Cuthbertson community really came together to commit to this campaign. We reached out beyond our own student body and staff to our cluster schools, community businesses, and even area HOA’s. Their support and dedication to making continued safe driving commitments is what helped us reach our goal!” said Principal Warr.

The State Farm Celebrate My Drive campaign is all about committing to safe driving, especially among teens who are new to driving. Their website states: ‘That’s what Celebrate My Drive is about – celebrating this big, new life of freedom that comes with a driver’s license. Part of that life means making smart choices behind the wheel, which is why we’re spreading the message of 2N2® – 2 eyes on the road, 2 hands on the wheel. It’s a simple habit that can reduce distracted driving and help new drivers build confidence on the road.’
