PDHS FBLA Members Volunteer at the Christmas Bureau

Members of the Piedmont FBLA and New Century Scholars volunteered at the Union County Christmas Bureau on Dec. 5th.  Each year the Christmas Bureau must rely on hundreds of individual, group, and family volunteers to help meet the needs of families that apply to receive Christmas assistance.   Donations of food, toys, and clothes come from the community and from organizations like the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army, and several Union County Organizations.  These donations help to ensure that every family can experience the joys of Christmas while still being able to meet their monthly expenses.  Students from Piedmont helped to sort food items and fill bags with toys from the children’s wish lists.  According to student, Kaleigh Smith, this was a good experience and something that she plans to participate in again in the future.  “It was important to me to pick out toys and items that would make the children happy, so it was a little stressful for me when the item they really wanted wasn’t available.”   FBLA members donated items for teens since there is always a need for more items in this age group.  Mrs. Weidenhammer, the club’s adviser, said that this has become an annual service project for Piedmont FBLA and a great way to get members involved in their community and the true spirit of Christmas.  Information about the Union County Christmas Bureau can be found at the following website: http://www.co.union.nc.us/Divisions/SocialServices/VolunteerServices/ChristmasBureau.aspx
