2014 fall Girls on the Run participate in the Ginger Snap 5K
On Saturday, December 6, The Waxhaw Girls on the Run participated in the Ginger Snap 5K in downtown Waxhaw. The Girls on the Run are made up of third, fourth, and fifth grade girls. During the fall season the team was made up of 20 determined girls. This is a wonderful program that teaches girls how to have confidence in themselves and how to deal with peer pressure. It is also a program that helps build confidence through running. The girls start out learning about healthy eating, exercise, and body image. They learn how to pace themselves and work up to a 3 mile run. The Girls on the Run meet twice a week and they run a course behind the school by the baseball fields. Each week the girls set a running goal and they try to beat their previous goal at each practice. The ultimate celebration is participating in an official 5K race. The rain held off as girls from all over Union County came to Waxhaw to show off their running skills. The girls from Waxhaw Elementary were excited and determined. They all ran the full time or most of the time and as they crossed the finish line, they received a medal. The Girls from Waxhaw have worked hard and their coaches, along with their parents, congratulate them on a job well done!
