Students receive Excelsior Awards
Weddington High School held its Fall Excelsior Awards Breakfast on Friday, December 12, 2014.
The Excelsior program was created in 2007 under the leadership of school administration and the Climate for High Expectations Correlate.
Excelsior is a recognition process which allows the faculty to recognize students who have exhibited excellent work ethic and leadership within their classes through thoughtful, hand-written messages on an Excelsior postcard.
Twice a year, each department chooses one male and one female student to receive the Departmental Excelsior Award for their accomplishments. Each student receives a medallion as a result of this special recognition and are encouraged to were them at graduation. Two faculty members are also selected by the school administration.
Seniors recognized were Cheyenne Brown, Connor Brown, Chiara King, Anthony Mentus, Ashley Monteith, Jerin Napier, Matthew O’Connor, and Chanel Tomlin.
Juniors recognized were Samantha August, Allie Belcher, Justin Black, Keith Duncan, Frankie Grippo, Nicole Pagano, and Jina Simon.
Harrison Kaperonis, Colby Niemeyer, and Rachel Tilley were the sophomores recognized.
Thomas Burke, Alex Roach, Jonathan Rupert, and Matthew Sawtelle were the freshmen recognized.
Faculty members recognized were Christina Bachiller and Donna Walton.
