Bus drivers honored by Sun Valley Middle School with breakfast
To show their appreciation for a job well done, Sun Valley Middle School honored its bus drivers recently with an appreciation breakfast.
“The idea was to take a moment to show appreciation for our unsung heroes, those who often go unnoticed and unappreciated,” said Sun Valley Middle principal Vicki Merritt.
Helping in the effort to honor the 42 drivers were the school’s faith-based partners, New Beginnings Community Church and Southbrook Church.
The breakfast, which was funded by Southbrook Church, was prepared by the school’s cafeteria staff. The church also gave $10 Starbucks gift cards to each bus driver.
New Beginnings Community Church provided coffee mugs, while the school provided $5 gift cards to the Sun Valley 14 Cinemas.
“It’s been a collective, team effort to pull this off, just to show appreciation for the bus drivers and certainly to continue to encourage them in their job to transport our most precious cargo,” Merritt said. “This was just a small way to say thank you.”
“I think this is great,” said Doris Russell, a 40-year veteran bus driver, who added that her love of the job and the students kept her coming back day after day.
During the breakfast, Merritt held a moment of silence for the late Tim McManus, the Sun Valley bus driver who died recently.
