Mining Student Data
During the month of December, several Marvin Ridge Middle School teacher leaders had the opportunity to increase their knowledge and enhance their leadership abilities related to professional learning communities (PLCs). Over the last two school years, the faculty and staff at Marvin Ridge Middle have committed to high level implementation of PLCs through collaboration, common goals for student achievement, common assessments, and collaborative data analysis. It’s all aimed at the end goal of increased student achievement, but along the way, powerful teacher development is embedded in the process.
In December, select teachers who serve on the MRMS PLC Guiding Coalition visited Ranson Middle School in Charlotte to get a glimpse into the strategic student data analysis which is being implemented very successfully at the school. The teachers and administrators who accompanied them on their visit came away with several new insights and strategies which will help them to “mine the student data” in an effort to find anything and everything which will help to continue to move each of our students forward academically. Just like the students, the teachers at Marvin Ridge Middle School never stop learning!
