DECA and FBLA host and compete successfully in district events

Earlier in December, Marvin Ridge High School also hosted the 2014 DECA District 6B competition. DECA is an international organization that prepares emerging leaders in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high school and colleges around the globe. Marvin Ridge hosted seven other schools from the surrounding areas with nearly 150 students in attendance. Students competed in categories such as Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Quick Serve Restaurant Management, Retail Merchandising, Principles of marketing, and Apparel and Accessories Marketing.

These competitions consisted of a marketing test and a ‘role-play’ or mock business scenario.  Two students from Marvin Ridge placed in the top three of their event at the closing ceremony and numerous others made proficiency.

Jordan Braswell, senior, received 2nd overall in Apparel and Accessories Marketing and Adam Fisher, sophomore, came in 1st overall in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. With the help of numerous volunteers from the community, the competition went off without a hitch. A number of students from Marvin Ridge now plan to attend the State competition that will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina this February.
