Luke Hyatt Named Football Coach

Piedmont welcomes Luke Hyatt as the new Panther football coach. Hyatt was introduced to football players and staff on January 7th and will assume his coaching and teaching responsibility at Piedmont on January 20th. According to Hyatt, “It’s an exciting change in my life and a great opportunity. I am blessed and humbled to be at Piedmont and look forward being a part of the Piedmont community.”

Hyatt graduated from Wingate University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education before earning his Master’s degree from East Carolina. He has been a teacher and football coach at Anson High School for the past 14 ½ years. In addition to his wife, Anne, Hyatt has four sons.

On Wednesday, January 8th, football players met Coach Hyatt and heard his vision and goals for 2015 Panther football 2015. He encouraged student-athletes to finish the semester strong by doing well on exams and to make a commitment to the weight room in the coming months. Hyatt will be teaching weight lifting classes during the second semester. After the introductions, many of the players introduced themselves to their new coach. According to junior Cole VonEgidy, “I am looking forward to good things in the future with Coach Hyatt and hopefully a successful season.”

Athletic Director Bob Gearhart stated that, “We are very excited to have Coach Hyatt join the Piedmont family. This is a new beginning for Piedmont football and we are very happy that Coach Hyatt and his staff will be leading us in this new beginning. He brings with him tremendous football knowledge and a passion for the game that was very evident in the hiring process. We look forward to he and his family becoming part of Panther Nation and to the future that he will bring to Piedmont football!”
