Archived Stories for Union County Public Schools
Students from Ms. Malady's and Mrs. Haring's classes went to the Jewish Community Center on December 16 and 18 to participate in the Butterfly Project. It was the perfect culminating activity to wrap up a unit on Anne Frank and The Holocaust. They were able to hear the story of a Holocaust survivor and ask questions about their experience. They painted a clay butterfly to represent a child that was killed in the Holocaust. These butterflies will be added to the sculpture which is displayed in front of the center. Finally, students participated in a group discussion about hate, prejudice, genocide and violence. It is the hope that through this kind of dialogue that we all understand that we have a responsibility to stop hate in our world.
