Archived Stories for Union County Public Schools
Mrs. Pope’s second grade class had a wonderful time celebrating Germany Day right before the Christmas break. Along with learning about the country’s geography and climate, students also learned about holiday foods, customs, and fairy tales that originated there. The students looked at maps and pictures. They also watched videos and listened to stories. It was a great opportunity to explore another country’s culture and customs.
One of the customs students learned about was making gingerbread houses. The students also had the opportunity to make gingerbread houses! The houses were constructed out of graham crackers, icing, and various types of candy. Everyone had fun creating their own version of a Gingerbread House. The students could hardly wait to take them home!
What a fun way to learn about a far-away country!
