Porter Ridge Students Reach out to Australia!

Third grade students cutting patterns for joey pouches

Once Porter Ridge Elementary students learned help was needed for the koalas that were injured in the South Australian bushfires, they went to work. After obtaining mitten patterns from the International Fund for Animal Welfare [IFAW], the students cut out dozens of pairs of mittens for koalas whose injuries needed protection!

The students then cut out ‘joey pouches’ to keep orphaned kangaroos and wallabies warm and quiet. The Media Center became quite a production facility for the koala mittens and joey pouches!

Our students definitely showed their concern for animals in other countries as they wrote their letters to accompany the mittens and pouches. Great job by our Porter Ridge students!
