Author visits 6th grade team

Mrs. Clipston

Did you know that it can take a year from the time a book is finished until it’s published? Or that novels need to be from 70,000 to 80,000 words? Sixth graders on the Fantastic Four team were amazed at the behind-the-scenes look author Amy Clipston gave them when she visited Piedmont Middle in January. Ms. Clipston has published a total of fifteen books, including young adult and adult novels, as well as a memoir. Her three Young Adult titles are Roadside Assistance, Reckless Heart, and, her latest, Destination Unknown. Clipston’s work is usually set in Amish country, which she is continuously researching. She shared with students the process of research, writing, editing and publishing, and answered the many questions students asked. This is the third year Amy Clipston has visited us – we hope she returns again and again. She is mother to Piedmont Middle 8th grader Zac Clipston and Porter Ridge Elementary 4th grader Matt.
