Our Awesome Lady Bears Softball Team
The 2014 Parkwood Middle School Lady Bears softball team opened the super competitive conference season with a convincing 10-0 shutout of the perennial powerhouse Marvin Ridge Mavericks. This game was a sign of what was become of the Lady Bears.
Playing in a conference that consistently produces very successful high school teams and state title contenders year in and year out, the Lady Bears blew through the season with a phenomenal 15-2 record. Only two years removed from a 2 win season the Lady Bears scored a Parkwood record 129 runs while only giving up 38. The offensive side of the Lady Bears team was impressive compiling a team batting average of .364. The Lady Bears banged out 172 hits on the season with 46 doubles and 7 triples. The team had a mind boggling on base percentage of .424. The Lady Bears won the regular season with a victory at Sun Valley, and blew through the tournament to claim their first ever softball conference championship with a run rule victory over Piedmont 10-0. The Lady Bears pitching staff was equally as impressive. Comprised of just two pitchers, Caroline Ruth and Erin Griffin, they put up some impressive numbers. Both of these talented ladies had ERA's of less than 1. Only giving up an incredible 11 earned runs on the year the girls completely dominated most games. These two threw 1608 total pitches on the year with 1079 being strikes.
The Lady Bears were comprised of 12 talented young ladies. They completed the historic Parkwood season with 4 seventh graders and 1 sixth grader in the starting lineup. Team members include Sabrina Davis, Katie Cook, Natalie Ruth, Erin Griffin, Chloe Hardy, Emmie Crook, Allie Griffin, Amber Parker, Addison Laney, Sarah Harkins, Lauren Helms, Caroline Ruth. These ladies were coached by Head Coach Scott Laney and Assistant Coach Toby Ruth.
The talent rich members of the conference are Weddington, Marvin Ridge, Cuthbertson, Porter Ridge, Piedmont, East Union, Sun Valley and the 2014 Conference Champion Parkwood Lady Bears.
