Third annual Family Engagement Conference to be held Feb. 21

The Family Engagement Conference will offer free parent workshops, children’s programs, vendors and a complimentary lunch.

A Family Engagement Conference, planned for later this month, is designed to help parents learn more about programs within Union County Public Schools and ways to help their child succeed.

UCPS Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) and Federal Programs are holding its third annual Family Engagement Conference on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at Monroe Middle School, which is located at 601 E. Sunset Drive in Monroe.

The conference will offer free parent workshops, children’s programs, vendors and a complimentary lunch.

Workshops for academically and intellectually gifted (AIG) students include: “Think, Play, and Learn;” “Growing Gifted Learners in Reading;” “AIG and Advocacy: Gifted Education in ALL Schools;” and “Unlocking the Mysteries of Singapore Math (AIG Primary mathematics – 4th and 5th Grade) Model Building.

Some of the topics in the parent workshops include: “Finding the Tools to Create Powerful Partnerships;” “Transitioning from Elementary to Middle School: A Panel Discussion;” “How Can Parents Help Their LEP Children?”; “FREE Digital Resources for the UCPS Tech Savvy Student;” “Digital Citizenship: Keeping Your Kids Safe Online;” and “Improve Your Child’s Self-Esteem and Success in School.”

Three sessions will be offered in Spanish; ¿Cómo Pueden los Padres de Estudiantes con Conocimiento Limitado del Inglés Ayudar a sus Hijos? (How Can Parents Help Their LEP Children?); Mejore la Autoestima y el Éxito de su Hijo en la Escuela (Improve Your Child’s Self-Esteem and Success in School); y Intimidación: ¿Cómo Puedo Proteger a Mi Hijo? (Bullying: How Can I Protect My Child?)

There will also be children’s programs offered. These will include activities in literacy, science, technology, art, drama and health and fitness.
