Arts Integration a Success for Kindergarten
The essential teachers have been hard at work helping regular grade level teachers integrate the arts this year. Each quarter, an essential teacher is assigned to a grade level to help find ways to use the arts to create mastery of an academic concept.
Third quarter, Miss Richert (Drama) has been working with Kindergarten to bring reading to life through a reader's theater based on the text "What Can Jigarees Do?" written by Joy Cowley. The text chosen was picked specifically to be at the Kindergarten students' average reading level. Students enjoyed rehearsal as well as designing and making masks for their character. For their final performance, the students acted their script for their buddy class. The day of the performance was a great success with many reading skills gained such as fluency and comprehension. It was also a wonderful experience for children to learn through play.
