CYC's Coat Drive a Success
Piedmont Middle School CYC (Committed Young Christians) hosted a coat drive on Friday, November 21. Club members invited all students to donate coats and additional winter apparel like gloves, hats and scarves. “Old Blue,” the Piedmont Middle School iconic blue truck, was parked at the front of the school that morning for CYC club members to receive donations. Within approximately 30 minutes the truck bed was full!
Additional students spent the morning sorting and folding the donations which were then delivered to Euto Baptist Church in New Salem to coordinate with their “Coats for Him” mission project. The church is in partnership with the Riverview NEST program in rural Creston, North Carolina. Church members delivered the donations and provided two meals during the Thanksgiving weekend break. The first delivery and meal was in rural Creston, close to the Tennessee border. The second meal and delivery was in a West Jefferson community.
The donations arrived just in time! An early fall snow hit the area that weekend. The weather prevented many families from attending either of the deliveries. The local families that attended took many items for themselves and generously selected items for their neighbors that could not attend. Throughout the following week as weather permitted, the communities were able to arrive and receive coats, blankets and many more much needed items for the harsh winter conditions they will be facing this season.
CYC wants to thank Piedmont Middle School students, families and community members that supported this cause.
