Sardis Afterschool Shows Creative Hospitality
The Sardis Afterschool Program provides students with daily care and promotes enriching activities that go beyond the scope of the school day. Recently the students got to show their creative side while learning a valuable lesson in hospitality. Tonya Harris, the afterschool director, had the idea of having the students create tiles depicting “Chip the Bear” which is the school’s mascot. The tiles were given to the members of the Union County Public Schools Board of Education as well as Dr. Mary Ellis and the Central Services Cabinet staff. The tiles were presented to the officials at the recent Board of Education Meeting that was held at Sardis on February 3, 2015. The project was a way to let the students become aware of who the members of the school board are and what they do for Union County. It was also a way for them to show their gratitude to these public servants and their hospitality as our school hosted the meeting. The school board members were thrilled to get the tiles as a gift. Sardis’ afterschool program consistently strives to reach out into the community and provide the students with quality care and character building experiences.
